This paper discusses the quality of buildings in Tanzania, the benefits and limitations of using precast technology in building construction in Tanzania, and the potential opportunities available in the building construction in Tanzania. Moreover, this paper highlights resources that are available, as well as resources which need to be imported for the introduction of precast technology in building construction of Tanzania to be successful. The methods employed in this research were a literature review, an online survey, and phone interviews. The main results show that the quality of buildings in Tanzania is low. However, the low quality of buildings in Tanzania can be improved by using precast technology, which incorporates the use of a controlled manufacturing environment for precast components. An increasing unemployment rate, a requirement for high-skilled construction expertise, and the need for heavy equipment were found to be among the leading limitations of using precast technology in the construction of buildings in Tanzania. Nevertheless, with the availability of resources such as cement, steel, and cheap labor in Tanzania, this paper asserts that precast technology has a very high potential of transforming the building construction industry in the country. This paper ends by recommending more research on investigating how the industrial sector can effectively be integrated with the construction industry to further reduce limitations and challenges associated with the use of this technology in building construction in Tanzania.
