Environmental engineers have struggled with trying to remediate sites contaminated with calcitrant compounds. Pentachlorophenol (PCP) is among the calcitrant compounds studied by private and governmental agencies. Older technologies have relied upon ex-situ remediation processes. The new trend in remediation technology is to find innovative methods and techniques to perform in situ remediation at polluted sites. In situ remediation technologies tend to be cheaper and less obtrusive to the environment. The scope of the document is to review the current technologies used to remediate PCP – contaminated sites. The Penta Wood Products site in the town of Daniels, WI will be used as a model for this report.
